MONTE L. BEAN LIFE SCIENCE MUSEUM (USA)
One experience that I enjoyed immensely and learned a great deal doing was: working as a muralist for the Monte L. Bean Science Museum in Provo, Utah under the direction of Randal Baker. Located on the campus of Brigham Young University, this popular museum is 9,875 square meters and frequently welcomes many thousands of visitors each year. My work was for the sizable “Into Africa” exhibit which multiple artists worked on over a span of time to complete. I painted three main sections solo: 1. the jungle tree section 2. the marshy water area by the hippos and 3. the main tree. In addition to the large mural work on the walls there were multiple canvases that I painted to prep and pitch ideas beforehand. I have a passion for animals and nature so this was a perfect fit for me, although my portfolio has expanded over the years (books, digital, etc.), I am still very interested in mural projects.
ユタ州プロヴォのブリガム・ヤング大学キャンパスに９８７５㎡の広さをもつモンテ・L・ビーン科学博物館があります。毎年、数千を超える人々がこの博物館を訪れ、私も以前この博物館で働いておりました。ある年に博物館が壁画プロジェクトを行うことになり、私も参加する機会がありました。ランダル・ウォーカー氏の指示の下、「Into Africa」という展示会の為に私も壁画作りに励みました。私にとって、このプロジェクトはとても楽しいものとなりました。幾人ものアーティスト達がこの展示会の為に働き、私は多くを学び大きな影響を受けました。私が担当した三つのセクションは一つ目がジャングルの木、2番目にカバがいる湿地帯、そして３番目に壁画のメインとなる木でした。壁画を描く前に何枚も入念に同じ絵を描き周到な準備を行いました。自然や動物が大好きな私にとってこの仕事はうってつけの仕事でした。いつかまた何かの壁画プロジェクトに参加する機会があることを望んでいます。

Thirteen years after painting the first version of PRINT MASTER I painted it again. I am very pleased with the way it came out. And I am excited and grateful that PRINT MASTER NO. 2 will hang in the Crandall Historic Printing Museum in the USA. This museum has been called “the most complete printing museum in the world.” It is slated for a grand re-opening in 2022.

KUJUKUSHIMA ZOOLOGICAL AND BOTANICAL GARDEN

These are the zoo and gardens in my childhood hometown and I have very fond memories of visiting and seeing the animals. Nearly every time that I went, I’d want to draw animals either while I was there or right afterwards. In fact, the first art award that I have a memory of receiving was when I was very young, maybe preschool or kindergarten, and it was for one of my zoo paintings. That award was a fun surprise for me and left a mark. All these years later I still feel very glad when an opportunity arises to sketch or paint animals.
Therefore it was only natural that I reach out to the zoo later as an adult. I inquired about the possibility of donating this leopard canvas and the zoo director, Mister Itsuki Adachi, was gracious enough to respond to my inquiry and to accept the painting on behalf of the zoo. I had the pleasure of hand delivering the framed canvas in January 2020. It is currently on display there.
If you are in Kyushu and have a chance to visit, I highly recommend that you go see the grounds, exhibits, animals, and gardens--you won’t be disappointed.
このギャラリーにある作品は私が生まれ育った町の動植物園を描いたものです。この動植物園は動物や自然が大好きな私にとって思い出深い場所です。その動物園に行く度に園内に住む動物を描きたいと思ったものでした。記憶にあるかぎり生まれて初めて表彰をうけた絵はこの動物園に住む動物を描いたものでした。自分の絵が表彰された事にとても驚き、絵が好きになるきっかけとなりました。これまで多くの動物を描く機会がありましたが、いつでもそのような機会を歓迎しています。ですので佐世保を引っ越す前にこの思い出深い動物園を訪れるのは自然なことでした。引っ越す数か月前に森きらら・九十九島動植物園で主任を務める足立いつき氏にこのヒョウの絵を寄贈できるかどうか尋ねてみたところ快く承諾してくれました。２０２０年の一月に足立樹氏が園を代表してこの絵を受け取ってくれました。もし将来九州の長崎に行く機会があれば、佐世保市にある森きららという動植物園を訪れみて下さい！展示品や動物、植物どれもあなたをがっかりさせることはありません！
